Welcome Great River Pomeranians! We are so happy that you've come to meet us. We are located in a quiet neighborhood on Long Island. Our house is not just our home, it is home to the poms as well. We pride ourselves on treating our dogs with love and care, and the poms get constant attention and socialization throughout the day. In fact, most of the dogs are kept in a special area in my kitchen, where they are with me all day long. My sliding glass doors open up onto a large fenced deck which has a ramp to an enclosed doggie yard. Beyond this area is an acre of grassy, fenced yard, which I let the dogs romp in when I am able to watch them closely. It is my little oasis which I often affectionately refer to as “Fort Knox”. Play, frolicking and healthy exercise is encouraged and I rarely kennel. Our breedings are handled with care as well. I have developed a huge interest in health issues in the breed and do my best to avoid them. One issue which I am passionate about is trying to avoid alopecia, known in the breed as "Black Skin Disease". I feel that by careful breeding, it can be largely avoided. Although I have had this in my line in the past, as almost every breeder has, I rarely see a puppy with a coat problem come out of my breeding program. Lush coats are something that my dogs have become known for. I also strive for soundness, type and nice movement. I only show my best, and I have been fortunate to have had some beautiful champions. I am proud to have been named one of the Top 10 Breeders in the USA by the American Pomeranian Club in 2005! One of my biggest goals for the future is to bring the type and coats that I get in my oranges, partis, back and tans, and blacks into my white breeding program. Although this is a huge challenge, I am already starting to make some great progress. My first white champion, Great Rivers White Lace, "Lacey", is proving to be a wonderful asset to my program. I have a beautiful white stud dog, "Ranger" and I am starting to get some gorgeous white puppies in my most recent breedings. I will not sacrifice type, quality, soundness or coat in my whites. Look for some beautiful white Great River poms in the future! So, please take some time to look at our beautiful dogs. I am proud of each and every one! And check our our puppies page. Many of these babies have gone on to become champions or are currently in the ring now. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I feel that the more knowledge we all have about the breed, the nicer and healthier dogs we will all have. I am always glad to help. Best of luck!
